INVESTMENT NOTE

Sapiom

The execution and payments layer for AI agents.

AI agents can reason and plan, but they still struggle to finish work that requires paid infrastructure. Calling a model, sending an SMS, buying data or provisioning compute usually means a person must create accounts, enter payment details and manage credentials. That friction keeps many agent products stuck at the demo stage.

Sapiom gives agents one integration for models, search, compute, messaging and other paid services while handling authentication, metering and billing behind the scenes. Identity, budgets, permissions and spending limits are checked before execution. The ambition is broader than payments alone: to become the runtime and access network that safely turns an agent’s intent into a completed action.

Founder and CEO Ilan Zerbib previously co-founded consumer-fintech company Earny, which was acquired in 2021, then led payments engineering at Shopify for nearly five years. He says he helped scale Shop Pay beyond $100 billion in GMV and built Shop Cash from the ground up. In June 2026, Sapiom acquired Fewsats and brought in founder Jordi Montes—an early builder of the machine-native L402 payment standard—to lead payments.

Sapiom announced a $15.75 million seed round in February 2026 led by Accel, with participation from Gradient, Array Ventures, Okta Ventures, Menlo Ventures, Anthropic, Coinbase Ventures and others. In June, Mastercard named Sapiom an initial participant in its Agent Pay for Machines ecosystem. Revenue and usage remain undisclosed, which is unsurprising for a company launched in 2025.
